SİNCAN - Ill prisoner Selver Yıldırım is at risk of losing her eyes because she is not treated.

Selver Yıldırım, an ill prisoner held in Sincan Women's Closed Prison, is losing her sight. Yıldırım was completely blind in one eye, and his vision in the other eye dropped from 20 percent to 15 percent. According to the information obtained; Yıldırım's sight loss and eye pain first started in 2014. Yıldırım, who was held in Elbistan Prison at that time, was referred to Elbistan State Hospital after experiencing eye pain. However, she was not treated because the doctor named Yusuf Güneş imposed an examination in handcuffs. The diagnosis of Yıldırım's disease continued for 7 years, as she had to wait 2-3 months for each hospital referral.

Then, Yıldırım was diagnosed with eye fluid discharge (SSR) at Maraş Sütçü İmam University. However, she was sent back to Elbistan without treatment. Yıldırım, who was not treated because there was no laser in the District State Hospital, went to the infirmary and requested to be referred to an ophthalmologist as her eye pain increased. The infirmary doctor prescribed ordinary eye drops and said: "If it doesn't go away, you can come again. The doctor did not accept Yıldırım's request for referral.

OBSTACLE TO TREATMENT

Yıldırım suffered significant sight loss when she lifted something heavy. Thereupon she was sent to Antep. Yıldırım, who stayed here alone for 3 months, was not treated on the grounds that "Laser factories were closed". Yıldırım, who was then brought to Sincan Women's Prison, started receiving laser treatment at Bilkent Hospital. Lenses and sunglasses were prescribed for Yıldırım, who was last treated 3 months ago. However, the glasses and lenses prescribed by the doctor were not taken in by the prison administration without justification.

Yıldırım was urgently referred to Sincan State Hospital recently after the eyelashes on his painful eye grew inside. The eyelashes were burned with a laser by the doctor. Later, Yıldırım went for a check-up and laser was applied again because the leakage in her eye did not stop. Yıldırım, whose eye pain did not subside, was given an appointment for a follow-up check in 3 months.

Yıldırım can neither read, write nor watch television due to the pain in her eye. Yıldırım also has difficulty speaking, looking at different places for a long time, and other tasks due to the pain in her eye.

Yıldırım applied to the Ministries of Health and Justice, as well as the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) and the Ankara Bar Association, due to the denial of her right to treatment.
