RIHA - Stating that Turkey committed a war crime with its attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria, Berîtan Sarya said: "The agenda of the sovereign states is to weaken the Autonomous Administration and make it dependent on them."

Following the attack on the General Directorate of Security located in the Ministry of Internal Affairs campus on October 1, Turkey's attacks targeting Northern and Eastern Syria continue. In the attacks that started after the statement made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan on the issue on October 4, at least 110 regions, including many facilities, bases and infrastructure such as factories, hospitals, schools, dams, water, electricity and petrol stations and refineries, were destroyed by unmanned aerial vehicles and warfighting. bombed by planes. As a result of the attacks, 2 million people were left without hospitals, water, electricity and natural gas. In addition to the attacks against Rojava that have been continuing for 4 days, a mother and her 2 children were injured as a result of the bombing of a mosque in Maxmur Refugee Camp yesterday. Journalist Berîtan Sarya evaluated the developments he followed closely.

'WAR CRIME IS BEING COMMITTED'

Stating that the attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria have been going on for many years, Sarya said: "The Ankara attack was used as an 'excuse' for increasing attacks. The claim that those who carried out the attack came from Northern and Eastern Syria was denied by the Democratic Syrian Forces (QSD) and HPG. We know that even if this action had not occurred, there were plans to attack Northern and Eastern Syria. There were already attacks. But now it works more comprehensively. Civilian living spaces were targeted with the attacks, Sarya said that directly targeting the infrastructure was a war crime."

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ATTACKS?

Stating that the main purpose of the attacks is "to complete the Kurdish genocide", Sarya continued: "They want to massacre the Kurds and liquidate the Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria. After the Serêkaniyê and GreSpi invasion operations, although it constantly targeted the region with artillery, local ground attacks, UCAVs(Drone) and warplanes, it could not develop a new invasion operation. If the Turkish state trusts in its power and sees a conjunctural opportunity, it will do this too. Indeed, Northern and Eastern Syrian oil became a problem for Erdoğan. He wanted to occupy this region and exploit the oil. In 2019, It appeared at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly with a map of oil and occupation. In 2020, he himself said that Putin offered to take the oil in Northern and Eastern Syria out of SDF control and use it together. He did not succeed in this goal. We see how oil facilities are targeted in current attacks. The Damascus administration and Russia, which are carrying out black propaganda against the autonomous administration and SDF, also have a direct stake in this concept. However, Turkey's targeting of oil stations, wells and grain warehouses will affect not only Northern and Eastern Syria but all of Syria because oil and grain will not go to the Damascus areas.”

THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL FORCES

Condemning the silence of the international community against the attacks, Sarya said: "The necessary mechanisms were not implemented against crimes against humanity. The USA, Russia and international coalition forces are also partners in the attacks. They approve of it. The USA, Russia, the Damascus government and international coalition forces are in the places where the attacks took place, but they have remained silent. An unmanned aerial vehicle(drone) belonging to Turkey was shot down, but in the statement it was stated that it was an action to protect themselves. Hakan Fidan had a statement regarding third parties. The downed drone could be an answer to this; however, it is definitely not an intervention aimed at protecting the people of the region because there have been dozens of UAV(drones) attacks for 4 days. Civilian settlements around US and Russian bases are being targeted. There is no reaction or explanation to this. They are just making statements to justify themselves."

'THE PEOPLE HAVE THE DETERMINATION TO RESIST'

Stating that the people of the region expressed their reaction by taking to the fields against the attacks, Sarya said: “All peoples, including Arabs, Kurds, Turkmens, Armenians, Assyrians, Circassians, are protesting the attacks and conspiracy in the areas and expressing their determination to resist. These people, who started the Rojava revolution from scratch, organized their life and political system under heavy attacks and systematized women's freedom. The women's freedom paradigm has become vital in Rojava. It did this by resisting heavy attacks, embargoes and sieges. He has the strength and determination to do it on this day. People put their lives on the line when they had nothing, they resisted and did not give up. Today's attacks have caused great economic damage to Rojava, but the people will not surrender again. The people of Rojava have the determination to resist."

Drawing attention that there is also a military resistance against the attacks, Sarya said: "Rojava forces respond to the attacks on the basis of legitimate defense."
