MÊRDÎN – Mothers for Peace Halime Kaya, whose village was burned, her husband was tortured and her son was maimed, continues her struggle for years at the Justice Watch today. Kaya said: “Our lives are lost, but our honor remains. We are fighting for the truth."

The "Justice Watch" launched in Mêrdîn within the scope of the "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, solution to the Kurdish issue" campaign continues on its second day. One of the names participating in the Justice Watch led by Mothers for Peace is 72-year-old Mother for Peace, Halime Kaya. Kaya, whose village was burned to the ground and whose husband was tortured to death in 1992, has been struggling for peace for an honorable life ever since. Kaya, who has taken part in every action with the Mothers for Peace for years, fighting against war in areas ranging from human shield actions to press statements, marches to actions, is today at the Justice Watch action to raise the demands of the prisoners in prisons.
HER SON WAS DISABLED AS A RESULT OF TORTURE

Halime Kaya, who remained with her 4 children after the death of her husband, had to leave their burned village while continuing her struggle for life with her children. Halime Kaya those days: “There have always been guards around our village. They told my children's father that he would be a rangership. He also said that he would not accept being a rangership. That's why they complained, saying 'He is the headman of the Apoists'. The soldiers were threatening him, saying that if he did not become a rangership, bad things would happen to him. He didn't accept it either. A soldier was killed at Hop Pass. Those who reported said that those who carried out the incident came to Xirbêbelek. They took my husband, who is the headman, and her 4 members with them. They were tortured for 45 days. We received news of his death. We asked them to give us our funeral, but he came home after 45 days. They made him sign a report stating that he had a traffic accident and sent him home. He went through so many bad things that I can't explain it. He didn't live long anyway, he lost his life."

Stating that the soldiers tortured her children, Kaya said: “They tied up my four children and took them away. They did the same things to us in Mehsertê. They maimed my middle son as a result of torture. Thank God, we still hold our heads high. My husband gave her life, but she did not bring that dishonor to his village. Our lives are gone, but our honor remains.”

'WE FIGHT FOR THE TRUTH'

Stating that she chose to be the Mothers for Peace to stop the bloodshed, Kaya said: “We are fighting for our own rights, our Leader and our children. We have many problems with this state. We have a cruel state. But we will do whatever we can for our prisoners and our Leader. We are taking action to end the isolation imposed on our Leader. We want the Leader and other prisoners to meet with their lawyers and family. to exercise their rights like every other prisoners and for the prisoners’ demands to be accepted. We are fighting for truth and justice.”

CALLED MILITARY’S MOTHERS

Pointing out that steps can be taken for peace if the isolation is abolished and a meeting is held with Öcalan, Kaya said: “The Leader always expresses that he wants peace. Erdoğan does not accept negotiations for his own seat, his own power. They think we will dream of peace, but we will live that dream in reality. We are also calling on military families and Turkish mothers; If you hold the hand we extend, this bleeding can stop. It's a shame for these souls. They put their shrouds on their backs and send them off to war. If they are sincere, let them send my own children to war. If negotiations were held with Imrali and peace was established, wouldn't this be better than war?"
