The İmralı delegation of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan, Ahmet Türk, the deposed co-mayor of Merdîn (Mardin) Metropolitan Municipality, who had a meeting with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmrali Type F High Security Closed Prison on 28 December, continues its round of meetings with parties in the Parliament.

 

The delegation met with Turkish Republican People's Party (CHP) Chair Özgür Özel at the Parliament at 10.30 am. In addition to Özel, CHP Group Deputy Chair Gökhan Günaydın, CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke and CHP Deputy Chair Gökçe Gökçen welcomed the delegation.

 

After the 1 hour and 35 minutes meeting, Özgür Özel and Sırrı Süreyya Önder made a statement. Stating that they shared their expectations so far and afterwards with the delegation, Özel noted that the process should be parliament-orientated.

 

Özel said, "We do not have any doubts or different opinions on this issue. We have open-heartedly stated that there is a need for a strong commission in the Parliament, including all political parties, for all the steps to be taken in the following process."

 

'WE CARE ABOUT THE WILL'

 

Emphasising the importance of social consensus, Özel said, "We care about the will expressed in order to raise the future hopes of all citizens in Turkey together, to stop the tears, to stop the bloodshed. We attach importance to the fact that all steps to be taken from here on should be both democratic and legal steps."

Sırrı Süreyya Önder said, "We had a very comprehensive meeting. We listened to the suggestions, contributions and concerns. Especially the concerns and objections are more meaningful than the support. Since this is not a manoeuvre of a narrow group of people, but concerns the wider society, we must reach a consensus."
