COLEMÊRG - DEM Party Gever District Co-Chair Ercan Sevmez stated that they have reached 5 thousand families in 12 neighbourhoods and 72 villages within the scope of Abdullah Öcalan's call and said, "The main demand of the people is Öcalan's physical freedom."

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party continue to visit families in many cities following Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society".

In Gever (Yüksekova) district of Colemêrg (Hakkari), 5 thousand families in 12 neighbourhoods and 72 villages have been visited so far. Families are given leaflets prepared for the new process and the importance of the new process is explained. DBP and DEM Party members also receive the suggestions and opinions of the people about the process during the visits.

THEY REACHED 20 THOUSAND PEOPLE

DEM Party District Co-Chair Ercan Sevmez stated that they reached 20 thousand people with the activities they started on 11 April. Stating that Abdullah Öcalan's call has created great enthusiasm and excitement among the people, Sevmez noted that there are concerns and worries as well as the hope for peace. Sevmez said that the source of the concerns was the state's failure to take any steps during the 2013-2015 process and that the letters written by the party's co-chairs were given to the people during the visits.

Sevmez said, "We went house to house between 11 and 30 April and delivered the letters to our people personally. We held mutual discussions. We listened to the suggestions of the people and took notes. We tried to convey the process in a transparent manner." Sevmez shared that people want the process to end positively and said, "In order to have a democratic society and peace, steps must be taken to ensure the free conditions of Mr Öcalan. Political prisoners, especially ill prisoners, should be freed. There is a demand for the Kurdish language to become official. The people say that these steps should be taken quickly in order to create an environment of trust and to eliminate their concerns."

Sevmez stressed that the people also expect that the process should not be spread over time  Sevmez added that they dedicated their work to Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a member of the DEM Party's İmralı Delegation who died on 3 May, and said: "We have a promise to them, we will definitely ensure peace. We know that we still have many villages to visit and hundreds of thousands of people to see. For this reason, we aim to leave no one unreached by concentrating our efforts."
