ANKARA - Ali Babacan, Chair of the DEVA Party met with the Imrali Delegation and stated that the biggest shortcoming of the process was the President's failure to inform the public, adding that they expected him to contribute to enlightening society. The Imrali delegation said: "Legal regulations must be made in a way that contributes to the peace process."

Members of the Imrali Delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar, and Faik Ozgur Erol visited Ali Babacan, Chair of the Democratic Breakthrough Party (DEVA).

Speaking after the visit to DEVA, Babacan said they had made assessments for the coming period regarding the process. "We are at a critical stage of the process," he said, noting that the commission established in Parliament had prepared its report and that they had also prepared their reports.

'WE EXPECT ERDOGAN TO CONTRIBUTE TO INFORMING THE PUBLIC'

Babacan added that after the reports were prepared, they would be read within a few days and the commission would prepare a joint report: "The political and social climate is very important in these conflict resolution processes. The better this climate is, the better it will be. When the climate deteriorates, problems multiply. It is extremely important that all parties act with very careful rhetoric and a very careful communication policy on this issue."

Babacan stated that the most important issue regarding the process is President Erdoğan's failure to provide sufficient communication and clarification about the process, saying, "We expect more communication and enlightenment from Mr Erdogan on this issue."

'A PEACE LAW IS NEEDED'

Pervin Buldan then took the floor and stated that DEVA's contributions to the process were very valuable. Pervin Buldan noted that the first phase had been completed and that legal regulation was now necessary.

Pervin Buldan added: "A peace law is needed for the process to succeed. We believe it is important for this law to be enacted in a short time." She noted that they plan to meet with other political parties and possibly President Erdogan.

COMPREHENSIVE POLITICAL CONSENSUS AND BROAD SOCIAL SUPPORT

Mithat Sancar stressed: "Peace and resolution processes require comprehensive political consensus and broad social support. That is our goal. These processes involve considerable difficulties; however, we believe that we can overcome these difficulties through social consensus. Legal regulations must be implemented in a manner that contributes to the peace process."
